Text Messages: Sign of the Times, Sign of a Stroke
Looks like a sign of the times is also the sign of a stroke: Trouble or incapacity to write a coherent text message, even in those who have no difficulty speaking, may be an essential clue in diagnosing a type of stroke. “Dystextia”, as it’s called, was apparent in a man who saw nothing wrong with the garbled text message he’d written. With no other symptoms aside from slight facial asymmetry, doctors determined that the man had suffered an acute ischemic stroke in which a blockage shuts down blood supply to the brain.
