Selective Peripheral Neurotomy Ends Paralysis for Wheelchair-Bound Man

After four years confined to a wheelchair due to paralysis, Rick Constantine is walking again after an alternative procedure that restored use of his leg. Constantine, who had suffered a paralysis-causing brain stem stroke after an auto accident, was told he would never walk again. However, after neurosurgeon Justin Brown, MD, performed a three-hour selective peripheral neurotomy, Constantine was walking within days and even completed a one-mile race without assistance.
