Omega-3 Lipid Emulsions May Curb Brain Damage After Stroke

An injection of triglyceride lipid emulsions rich in omega-3 fatty acid within a few hours of an ischemic stroke can decrease the amount of a mouse’s brain tissue damage by at least 50 percent, according to findings by researchers at the Columbia University Medical Center. The results suggest that the emulsions may be able to curb long-term neurological and behavioral challenges seen in human stroke survivors of neonatal and adult stroke.
