Researchers Distinguish How Human Brains Evolved Beyond Chimp Brains

Human and chimp brains are anatomically similar because they both evolved from the same ancestor millions of years ago. However, where does the chimp brain end and the human brain begin?

A new UCLA study pinpoints uniquely human patterns of gene activity in the brain that could reveal how we evolved differently than our closest relative. The gene identification could improve understanding of human brain diseases such as autism and schizophrenia, as well as learning disorders and addictions. The research appears in the Aug. 22 online edition of the journal Neuron. For more information, click here to read the full release.
