In the Loupe: Intra-operative vasospasm of the internal carotid artery
Description:
This soundless video of surgery for a large left-sided skull base meningioma shows intra-operative vasospasm of the internal carotid artery followed by treatment with direct application of papaverine. The patient is a 45-year-old woman who presented with headache and periods of confusion. A gross-total resection of her tumor was achieved. Following surgery, she experienced a transient left oculomotor nerve palsy that resolved on post-operative day No. 3. For additional reading, refer to the following: Michael E. Sughrue, MD; Ari J.
