Positive Memories of Exercise Spur Future Workouts
When it comes to exercise, it may truly be a case of mind over matter. A recent study from the University of New Hampshire reveals that just remembering a positive memory about exercise may be just what it takes to get on the treadmill. Published in the journal, Memory, it is the first study to explore how positive memories can influence future workouts. The researchers examined the effects of remembering past exercise experience on college students’ subsequent exercise intentions and behaviors. They found that students who remembered a positive exercise memory reported significantly higher levels of subsequent exercise than those who were not asked to recall a memory about exercise.
