Mentally Ill Patients More Likely to Develop Cancer
Those suffering from serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and disabling depression are 2.6 times more likely to develop cancer than the general population, according to new research from Johns Hopkins University.
The study raise questions about whether mentally ill patients are receiving appropriate cancer screenings and preventive care as they relate to risk factors for cancer such as smoking.
