Description:
As the article explained, “Psychosurgery was introduced into the United States in 1936 and developed by Drs. Water Freeman and James W. Watts. Both are members of the faculty of George Washington University. Doctor Freeman is the neurologist of the team — the man who studies the case in all its mental aspects — Doctor Watts, a follower of the late Harvey Cushing, is the surgeon.”
According to the photo’s corresponding caption in "Turning the Mind Inside Out":
"Doctor Freeman is the neurologist and analyst, Doctor Watts the surgeon. Here the latter is being helped on with his gloves before operating."
